HashiCorp Vault managed by Glasskube
Product Overview
HashiCorp Vault is an Open Source tool for secret management, encryption as a service, and privileged access management.
Secret management: Vault serves as a central hub to store, access, and distribute dynamic secrets like tokens, passwords, certificates, and encryption keys, thus mitigating the issue of secret sprawl. This centralization not only amplifies the security across an organization’s infrastructure but also decreases operational burdens.
Kubernetes Secrets: Vault sets the benchmark for managing secrets in Kubernetes, offering powerful functionalities to synchronize and inject secrets into your application infrastructure. It promotes secure practices by enabling precise credential distribution, thus authenticating unique identities rather than indiscriminately sharing them across services or pods.
Data encryption and tokenization: Vault’s comprehensive data protection features cater to a wide array of security and usability requirements, including traditional data encryption, format preserving encryption (FPE), data masking, and data tokenization. With its centralized key management and other capabilities, Vault simplifies the process of safeguarding data both in transit and at rest, across diverse clouds and data centers.
Exoscale Integration: Exoscale provides Backend plugins to authenticate clients based on Exoscale compute instance properties and create short lived IAM keys for clients.

Usage & Technical Prerequisites
You need to be an active Exoscale customer and have an existing Exoscale account.
The use of the Starter plan for production operation is strongly discouraged as automatic unsealing is not supported. If the vault restarts due to various reasons (bugfix updates, node restarts, scaling) the vault will seal itself and a manual unsealing must be performed by the customer. Only for the professional and enterprise plans Glasskube operates another “unsealing” vault which will be used by the customers vault for an automatic unsealing and undisrupted high availability operations.
